Origins, the first apparel collection by Soul & Spice celebrates the history of Port Harcourt by translating its architectural legacy into streetwear designs. Each illustrated structure in the collection celebrates the city’s iconic monuments, connecting street style directly to the visionaries who built the city.

Port Harcourt is the capital, largest city, and primary economic center of Rivers State in Nigeria’s Niger Delta. Founded by the British in 1912 as a railway terminus and seaport for Enugu coal, the city emerged as Nigeria’s primary energy hub following the 1956 discovery of crude oil at nearby Oloibiri. Today, it remains a major industrial base and cultural melting pot shaped by regional migration and an international commercial community.

01

The Point Block

One of the most iconic skyscrapers and the tallest building in the Niger Delta region, anchoring our core graphics. Completed in 1975 under Commander Alfred Diete-Spiff, who made history as Nigeria’s youngest state governor at just 24 years old. Its most iconic part, the “praying hands,” was only included in 1992 by Chief Rufus Ada George, the then governor, as a symbol of Rivers State’s dedication to God.

02

Major Isaac Adaka Boro

This apparel also honours Major Isaac Adaka Boro, the late Niger Delta rights and environmental activist who the Isaac Boro Park is named after. It also highlights the Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre, named in honour of the renowned scholar who was the first Ikwerre person to earn a PhD and championed writing literature in indigenous African languages.

03

Port Harcourt Tower

The Port Harcourt Tower is present to highlight modern urban growth in Port Harcourt. Initially supposed to be the Nigeria Stock Exchange building but now standing 17 storeys high as the city’s second-tallest structure, its distinct twin-peaked roofline silhouette and contemporary facade celebrate architectural resilience and urban rebirth.

04

Map of Old Rivers State

Finally, the historic map sculpture of old Rivers State, located outside the King Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex, serves as a visual homage to the state’s foundational identity before the separation of the state into Rivers and Bayelsa states.
